Welcome again to We Have Always Live the Kraken, a pop culture blog transmitted directly to you from the belly of the beast. Here in the Notes we’ll show you this month’s posting schedule, but first, here are some thoughts.
November appeared as a whisper, and then it disappeared without a trace never to be heard from again, as it desperately tried to step out of the large shadows of Halloween and Christmas and failed once again.
-David
From the depths of the Kraken, here is what we are bringing you this month.
Our new wing continues to allow you to reflect on past works of ours whenever you might want, so please enjoy this month’s highlighted works:
Read as Atomika takes a look at some of the many issues with The Jungle Book in Atomika vs The Jungle Book and Imperialism.
Go deep into the vault to see Kyu’s in-depth look at Batman in Baturdays. This time he looks at Detective Comics #52, “The Secret of the Jade Box”.
Catch of the Week Month:
Each and every week the residents here in the Kraken will offer one recommendation for the week that we think you all would enjoy. It might be a movie. It might be a book. Who knows? This is your… Catch of the Week Month.
David: So, Bong Joon-ho is an amazing director that has achieved various degrees of mainstream attention over the years with films such as Okja and Snowpiercer (neither of which would really be his best films, but the common person would know them best), but that is nothing compared to what is coming his way this year for his latest film, Parasite. A darkly comedic and poignant film is one of, if not the, best films of the year, and it is likely going to obtain the rarified air of gaining both a Best Picture and Best Foreign Language film nomination. This film offers some raw and pointed takes on class, and will leave you deep in thought long after you leave. This is one of the must-see films of the year!
Kyu: Parasite is great! Go see it. Know nothing else before you do.
That’s it for this month’s notes. Let’s all give thanks that the Kraken decided it would not sing this Holiday Season as his song causes the madness most foul.
